Wedding Dress Shopping?  Find the shape to suit your shape!

Wedding dress shopping is one of the most memorable things a woman will do in her lifetime.... next to the wedding day and if your lucky becoming a mum.  But how do we get it right, what shape will suit us if we have never tried on a wedding gown before.  Here is a quick piece of info to look at so you have a little idea of what may work for you and your shape.

Apple Body Shape
These brides usually have excess tummy weight and thin legs.
  • The cut is important
  • Less fuss
  • Draping should be asymmetrical
  • Shape the body with the details of the dress - pattern/lines
  • Consider using a belt to draw in the waist
Rectangle Body Shape
These brides should focus on pulling in the waist or creating volume around the hips.
  • Straight, Boyish shape
  • Use a belt or corset style to make a waist
  • A deep neck line in order to further widen the shoulder line
  • consider a off the shoulder dress to widen the upper portion of your body
  • A large skirt in order to create shape in the bottom half of the body
Pear Body Shape
The classic pear shape.  Smaller bust, larger hips.
  • A-Line dresses will work to shows off small waist
  • Emphasise shoulders and maybe try a strapless cress
  • Conceal the hip area
  • Consider a padded bra

Inverted Triangle Body Shape
Wide shoulder and small hips.
  • Try a plunging neckline brings to give the illusion of narrowing the waist
  • Add emphasis to the lower part of the body
  • Keep the top of the dress simple
  • most of the detail to the bottom of the dress to balance the shape

Hour Glass Body Shape
Perfect shape to pop into a dress, lucky you!

Its all about the brushes baby!

Right, I have been harping on about my YouTube channel for some time now, however I only have my show-reel uploaded, so to be totally honest its a sparse view for you guys ... But do not worry as my lovely and extremely talented man has produced and is editing my first Vlog, which is all about essential brushes that if you don't own, you should own!

Now let me tell you about the whole 'lets do a brush vlog!'.  Firstly I am not a natural in front of the camera as I am naturally an introvert, so this Vlogging jazz is pushing me wayyyyy outside my comfort zone. ( I heard along the grapevine that this is where the magic happens, so I've gone with that theory).  The camera man however is a natural in front of the camera, (Professional actor, he is - Boreoff!) so in my shyness and bid to not look too stupid, I ordered him out the room and made him close the door.  School girl error, I'm afraid!

Fast forward to my first cringe worthy viewing of my vlog, mid editing and he says 'oh wait here is the best bit!' as I removed the pillow from my raspberry coloured face and allowed my ears to hear past my seemingly thick scouse accent, there I am, no make up on and lovingly gazing at my synthetic haired brush and tenderly stroking its bristles, in a similitude to how a mother gazes at her child or how a lover looks before they pounce on their partner for a full on passionate snog!

Now I have never seen myself looking that way, and after melting into the sofa in a bid to camouflage and hide and a little snigger I realised that I do love my brushes and I actually don't care about how I look at them because as a make up artist, those hairy boys really do make me happy.

Love your brushes people.... but don't catch anyone looking!

I have listed 2 of my fave brush companies for you to go and purchase your essential brushes, or how I lovingly refer to them now; my 'hairy guys'.

Skin Primers Reviewed

This summers beauty must haves....

We have all been there in the summer months, sitting in the sunshine, iced cold drink in hand,  hair blowing in the slight breeze, gorgeous summer dress with your perfect summer pedicured toes....  then reality hits when you nip to freshen up your face and you realise you have been sat in the sun with panda eyes as your mascara has melted in the heat and that dewy natural foundation base that you left the house with has half disappeared into a blotchy mess and has revealed a greasy unattractive mass on your face...... not a great look, especially as your once glossed lips are now resembling Elephant skin, to boot!

Okay guys so lets get to the bottom of the average girls summer make up wants.

  • Summer glow
  • Big doe eyes
  • Moist lips
  • Great skin
Firstly what we need to start off the day is a great make up primer.  I have sampled quite a few in my time and I have my own preferences, but here are 3 very different types of primers that I used quite a lot and have reviewed.

Gosh velvet Touch Line Perfector

This is a product I have had for quite some time, in my kit.  I bought it as I felt it would be perfect for mature skin types, especially as it is great at minimising lines, even deep set facial lines.

However whilst it does have great properties of minimising lines and smoothing the skin, which is what it is designed for, it tends to crumble a heck of a lot upon application, which is a nightmare to say the least, mostly around the eyebrow area as it gets caught in the brow hair, which isn't a great look for anyone to try and pull off!

On the plus side, it would be great if kept to areas that are not around the eye, but I guess if I am to be totally honest and frank, what's the point of minimising lines if you should avoid the eye area, which is where most of us notice the first signs of ageing!

This primer is not something I would ever buy again.

Gosh Velvet Touch

Now we have another Gosh Velvet Touch  Primer, which in comparison to its fellow Gosh sister, is much better!  In fact as a budget primer for me this is a winner.

It covers open pores, the texture is silky smooth which helps the skin look fantastic without any extra make up, plus it does help the longevity of any foundation that you may use on top.  Everything you could ask for from a primer and its very reasonably priced  at £12.99 from Superdrug, BONUS!

Arbonne makeup Primer

Right here we have it, my Favourite primer to date.  Its awesome, hands down the best primer I have used so far.

Now I may be slightly bias as I do adore Arbonne and the ingredients that they use in their products, but whenever I have used this primer on my clients, they too have the same opinion as I do.... LOVE!

Its silky textured but not greasy, its doesn't seem to just sit on the skin making it feel too coated as some other primers can and it is a great line minimiser and gives great pore coverage, whilst prolonging any base make up.  This is hands down a must buy of your summer make up kit.  Its around £20 and can be bought on-line.

So there you have it, my review some of the highs and lows of  a small portion of skin primers on the market.  Make sure you dont get caught out this summer, get your primer and get prepped!

Keep posted for next weeks review of the Summer essentials.

Hair up Tutorial

Bridal Hair up

Step by step guide to producing this quirky twist on a classic bridal updo.   This Updo is surprisingly very easy once you know how.  It is also very quick to achieve.

What will you need

1 Hair bobble
Bobby Pins
Hair extension
Back combing brush
Pin tail comb
Hair spray

Step 1
Section the hair so you have 1 low ponytail and section the front, as to brides preferred parting.

Step 2
Attach a strip of hair extension to the upper side of the ponytail, and using bobby pins, pin into place

Step 3
Split the extension in half

Step 4
Back brush the pony tail on the upper side of the brides own hair, and roll upwards, creating a large loop and pin into place.  (feel free to use hair padding here if needed) At this point it should look similar to this image below.

 Step 5
Plait the two sides of the hair extension and roll them upwards in a big looped style and pin into place.  It should be looking like this image below, right about now.

Step 6
Now its about time we put on the brides tiara, should she have one.  Once this is in situ, its a good idea to place in a couple of pins in, to further secure it to the head.  Once this is done, take your  parting sections, using a pin tailed comb and slide the hair into place behind the style as best as possible.  This is where the pin tailed end of your comb comes in handy to tuck in the ends.

My finished look including a bridal makeup with individual lashes.

Nude Gel Shine Nail Polish Review

I am loving all the bright neon nail shades that are on trend at the moment they compliment all these fab neon statement gems that I keep seeing everywhere at the minute.

As much as I love the neon nail look, its not always practical for work at times, so I have decided to revisit the classic nudes.  I have chosen review Rimmel Salon Pro nail varnish, in 237, Soul Session.  Its a light nude shade with pink undertones, so will work well on pale and tanned skin, plus it gives an awesome gloss finish, without any need for a top coat, therefore shortening the application time, BONUS!

Talking about time, did I mention that it seems to dry really fast too, and the applicator is not too long, so it gives more control when applying, especially if you're in a hurry....... less smudging!

Adding to this stunning finish, this gel finish polish is so reasonably priced, its a bit of a steal!

Rimmel say -
`Up to 10 days chip resistant nail colour with gel shine finish!  Including 10 amazing shades created by Kate Moss.  Includes our precision maxi brush for salon perfection!'
£4.49 RRP
